Delaware County Spreads Holiday Cheers to

Delco Troops this Holiday Season

Delaware County Council partners with AMVETS Post 118 and Herbert Best VFW Post to send
holiday care packages to service members.

Delaware County Council, the Delaware County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and county employees will once again spread cheer to Delaware County troops who are either overseas, stationed on base in the United States, or recuperating in a veteran's hospital this holiday season.

County Council announced that they as well as county and court employees, will collect items and holiday greetings as part of the annual "Holiday Cheer for Troops" program during its public council meeting on Dec. 6.

Items such as beef jerky, breakfast bars, socks, powdered drink mix, magazines, soap, tooth brushes, CDs, DVDs, pens, writing paper and holiday cards are now being collected and will be shipped to troops throughout the holiday season. There is a collection box in the main lobby of the Delaware County Government Center (201 West Front Street, Media PA) and one at the Herbert Best VFW Post 928 (1805 MacDade Boulevard, Folsom, PA)

"It's important to remember and honor our troops every day, but especially during the holidays when these brave men and women of the armed services who are fighting for our freedom are not with their loved ones," said Councilman TBA as he/she announced the 2017 Holiday Cheer for the Troops campaign. "We hope a care package and a message of appreciation will brighten their day and remind them of our county's gratitude."

For the past nine years Delaware County Council and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs have collected and mailed hundreds of holiday cards and gifts as part of the Armed Services Tribute initiative. This year, County Council is once again partnering with the AMVETS Post 118 in Morton to mail care packages to our troops serving on base overseas or in the United States. Every month since 2006, AMVETS Post 118 Past Commander Harry Mirra and his fellow veterans have been sending care packages to our troops. Their Care Packages initiative is supported by several organizations including Wawa, local senior centers, school groups and other Veteran's groups.

Council reminded people to stop by the Armed Services Tribute Board where we honor active duty troops. Anyone who has a Delaware County family member serving in the armed services can submit their loved one's photo for display on our Tribute Board.
