DCPD monitors the safety and congestion issues at CSX freight train crossings of roads at various locations in the County. In 2001, the County obtained funding in DVRPC’s work program for a feasibility study of long-term improvements to these crossings. Such improvements may include grade-separation (bridges/tunnels) and road closings. DVRPC completed this study in 2006. The report recommends doing a detailed feasibility study of grade-separating the Main Street/CSX crossing in Darby Borough and the Swarthmore Avenue/CSX crossing in Ridley Park. DCPD was able to get funding for a feasibility study of grade-separating the Main Street Crossing in Darby Borough; DVRPC has begun this study and will complete it in 2012.
