General Information
The Transportation Planning section seeks to improve mobility for all Delaware County residents, employees, and visitors in a manner that provides a choice of travel modes, increases safety, reduces pollution, improves health, enhances communities, and reduces sprawl.
The Transportation Planning section advises County Council on all transportation issues and develops capital projects and operational plans for highways, transit, and bicycling. Planners monitor conditions of the transportation network, including the airways and trails, recommend improvements to increase the mobility of people and goods in Delaware County and throughout the region, and seek funding for those improvements. In addition, staff encourage biking as an alternative mode of transportation.
On the local level, DCPD serves as the liaison between municipal governments and PennDOT (the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation) and works with SEPTA (the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) to identify community transit needs.
