County Planners Attend DCTMA Conference

Planning Department Participates in DCTMA Municipalities Conference and Trade Show to highlight recent work.

The Planning Department participated in the Delaware County Transportation Management Association Municipalities Conference and Trade Show on Thursday, April 7th. Over 150 people attended the event, representing a number of Delaware County communities and professions.

The day stared off with the spring meeting of the Coastal Zone Task Force, which brought together the riverfront communities of Delaware County. The meeting included a special presentation on greenways and trails in the County.

County Planners were on hand in the exhibit space talking to attendees about recent and upcoming projects. It was a great opportunity to interact with municipal representatives and community members to discuss the importance of coordinating planning efforts. The Planning Department highlighted some of the most recent planning projects, including the Planners Portfolio Series, the Course in Community Planning, and the 2015 Annual Report. The County Open Space Plan, particularly the Countywide Primary Trail Network, was major attraction. Many municipalities stopped by asking how they can connect to the larger trail network and what it means for their community. Others vendors in attendance included SEPTA, DVRPC, and multiple engineering and planning firms.

The event feature a presentation by keynote speaker, Kenneth McClain, District Executive for PennDOT District 6. Mr. McClain spoke about the status of current and future PennDOT projects in the region and provided an overview of the work District 6 leads. Tom Shaffer, Manager of Transportation, was part of a forum on Complete Streets. His presentation emphasized recent work in the County to make the streets safer and more accessible for all users.
