Historic Resources Documentation
Municipal historic resource surveys are a valuable tool for those seeking information on the built environment of a municipality. The surveys provide background information on identified buildings. This information consists of an architectural description, an historical narrative (if available), a site drawing, and photographs. This information helps in developing strategies to conserve resources and preserve the historic identity of an area.
However, not every municipality in Delaware County has a survey, or even an inventory (a listing of resources without a detailed history). It is best to contact the Preservation section of the Planning Department to ask specifically about a municipality in question. When a survey is available, the public is welcome to visit and research these documents.
The Preservation section of the Planning Department has developed extensive files on resources within Delaware County. Planners are available to retrieve for the public any information in the files for specific resources.
In addition to information on individual resources, the Preservation section has information, including books, pamphlets, and articles, on the development and history of many of the municipalities and of the County in general.
