A Trolley Walk of Smedley and Glen Providence Parks
(Raindate will be in Fall 2012, watch for relisting)
This event is an all-day tour of two Delaware County Parks linked by the trolley. It is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Parks Alliance and led by architect Bob Thomas who is consulting Delaware County Open Space, Recreation, and Greenway Plan.
Please see the following description of the tour, which is adapted from the Philadelphia Parks Alliance website, http://philaparks.org:
Years ago, families would hop on the region’s extensive trolley system for a “day in the country”. We’ll recreate a walking tour of two gems of the Delaware County Park System in the Crum and Ridley Creek Watersheds. After meeting at the Paper Mill Road Trolley Station at 10am, we’ll hike through Smedley Park, and then travel by trolley to the quaint town of Media. Leaving the trolley at the end of the line, we’ll then tour Glen Providence Park. We’ll picnic in one of these two beautiful parks. Return to our starting point will again be by trolley. Please bring your own picnic lunch and fares for the SEPTA Media Trolley.
Meeting place: The SEPTA Paper Mill Road Station on the Media Trolley Line at Smedley Park, just north of Baltimore Park at 10am, following the arrival of the 9:33am trolley from the 69th Street Transportation Center.
Terrain and Difficulty: Park footpaths and some sidewalks. Moderate difficulty. Wear good walking shoes, and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way.
Pre-registration: recommended. Call 215-879-8159 or email friends@philaparks.org.
Cost: members of listed groups $25, non-members $30. Fees are waived for Delaware County residents, as the County is co-sponsoring this walk.
