Municipal Planning Services
Comprehensive Plans
Community Assistance staff are available to work with municipalities in preparing comprehensive plans to guide their future growth and development. DCPD is also committed to helping further the integration of a sound comprehensive planning process into the daily conduct of municipal decision-making and management.
In preparing a comprehensive plan, Community Assistance planners work closely with municipal leaders, local officials and staff, members of the business community, and local residents to identify a common vision for the future and develop strategies that work toward achieving that vision. This involves reviewing the history and development of the community, surveying existing conditions, and projecting future trends.
Then, through analysis, discussion, and evaluation, planners and the participating municipalities develop recommendations to retain and enhance their positive features and identify areas where improvements could be made. The entire process, from formation of a task force or steering committee to the publication of the final plan document typically takes eighteen (18) to twenty-four (24) months.
See our Consulting Services page for more information on the multi-municipal comprehensive plans that the Community Assistance section has provided assistance with since 2000.
