Medical Examiner's Procedure The handling of reported deaths varies from case to case. Autopsy is not mandatory in all cases under medical examiner jurisdiction. In some cases, the body does not have to be viewed at all by the medical examiner, in others an external examination only is performed, and in others a partial or complete autopsy is performed. In all accepted cases, certification is by the medical examiner. Hospital staff members are welcome to attend autopsies; call our office to ascertain scheduling.
