Delaware County changed the coroner's office to an up-to-date medical examiner system in 1979, in response to public demand, and facilitated by the home rule charter. The Medical Examiner's Office is located within the Fair Acres Complex in Lima. The Adminstrative Office is located at Building 19 along with a separate morgue building within the Fair Acres Complex.

The staff of the Medical Examiner's Office comprises of the following: a Medical Examiner and Assistant Medical Examiner (who are both board certified pathologists), an Investigative Supervisor , several Medical Legal Investigators, a Secretary and Autopsy Technician.
