Driving Efficiently
These days, thanks to fuel-efficient and hybrid cars, driving is more efficient than ever . Even if you don’t have a hybrid, you can keep your car at its cleanest by ensuring it meets state emission standards and driving more efficiently. But the easiest, cheapest, and most effective way to save energy and the environment is to drive less!
Transit services
Most of Delaware County is served by public transit (including bus, trolley, and regional rail service), making it convenient to get where you need to go. Delaware County produces a Delaware County Transit Map and Guide to assist residents in finding transit options close to home. If you take transit to work, your employer can even provide you with incentives to help cover your trip.
Biking
Biking is another good option, and the Delaware County Planning Department has developed a Bike Plan with recommendations for improving bicycle facilities and travel routes throughout the County. Bicycle commuting for work, shopping, or visiting friends is also a great way to help the environment and your health.
Walking & Other Alternatives
And of course, the easiest, cheapest and healthiest option is always walking! Since so many of Delaware County’s communities are traditional, walkable communities, you may even consider giving up your car altogether. If you do, for situations when you have a longer trip or errands where you need a car, PhillyCarShare has locations in Delaware County and can provide convenient access to cars.
