David J. White of Ridley Township was appointed to Delaware County Council on Jan. 3 2012 to fill the unexpired term of John J. Whelan, who took office as the Delaware County District Attorney.

Councilman White was elected to a four-year term in 2013 and sworn into office in January 2014.

Councilman White is a lifelong resident of Delaware County, growing up in Springfield, and then moving to Ridley Township 32 years ago with his wife, Debbie.

Councilman White is a steamfitter and owner of a small Delaware County business, DWD Mechanical Contractor Inc., where he employs 20 men and women.

He has served his community for years, both as an elected leader and a volunteer.

He was sworn in as a Commissioner of Ridley Township in January 1994 and served as vice president of the commissioners before resigning to take County office. In Ridley, he chaired the Building Committee, the Public Safety and Police Committee overseeing the township’s 35-person police department, and the Economic Development Committee.

As a Ridley Township commissioner, he worked to create a multi-use development project along Route 291 and was instrumental in bringing the Marriott Springhill Suites Hotel to the township and in the redevelopment of a blighted housing area in the Crum Lynne section.

Councilman White volunteers his time with the Kedron Youth Association and is a board member of the Ridley Township YMCA and the Delaware County Division of the American Red Cross.

Mr. White is a 1979 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School and also attended Delaware County Vocational Technical School.

He currently serves as chairman of the Ridley Township Police and Fire Memorial Foundation.

He and his wife have four children.
