David J. White of Ridley Township was appointed to Delaware County Council on Jan. 3, 2012 to fill the unexpired term of John J. Whelan, who took office as the Delaware County District Attorney. Dave was elected to a four-year term as Delaware County Councilman in 2013 and sworn into office in January 2014.

Dave is a lifelong resident of Delaware County, growing up in Springfield, and then moving to Ridley Township 33 years ago with his wife, Debbie. They have 4 children Lisa and her husband, Paul Getz, Matthew, Brian, and Kellianne.

Dave is a steamfitter and owner of DWD Mechanical Contractor Inc., a full service plumbing, HVAC and sheet metal contractor, located in Delaware County.

He has served his community for over 30 years, both as an elected leader and a volunteer.

Prior to his appointment to Delaware County Council, Dave was sworn in as a Commissioner of Ridley Township in January 1994 and served as Vice President of the commissioners before resigning to take County office. In Ridley, he chaired the Building Committee, the Economic Development Committee and the Public Safety and Police Committee, overseeing the township's 35-person police department. He also founded the Fire Memorial Foundation.

As a Ridley Township commissioner, he worked to create a multi-use development project along Route 291 and was instrumental in bringing the Marriott Springhill Suites Hotel to the township and in the redevelopment of a blighted housing area in the Crum Lynne section.

Dave is a member of the Heroin Task Force, working alongside District Attorney Jack Whelan on initiatives to combat the Heroin and opioid epidemic such as working to equip all police officers in Delaware County with life-saving Nasal Narcan, installing medicine drop boxes in all police stations across the county and hiring Certified Recovery Specialists to respond to overdose victims and provide resources for recovery. He also works with Recovery Homes and Grass Roots organizations to help prevent addiction and offer recovery to those in need.

Dave is an avid supporter of veterans and was presented with a plaque by the Pennsylvania Veteran's Museum, where they named the 3rd floor conference room in his honor. The "David White Room" was dedicated to Councilman White for his contributions in turning an unfinished room into a state-of-the art conference room, now the Museum's Board Room. Councilman White was also presented with the "Hendrick Award" for outstanding service to the Pennsylvania Veteran's Museum. Councilman White continuously supports the Delaware County's Veteran's Memorial Association and their various tributes to veterans, including the Memorial in Newtown Square, where the names of his mother and father are engraved on the World War II column.

In October 2016 Ridley Township School District presented Dave with the "Ridley Community Legacy Award" in recognition of his dedication towards the Ridley Township School District and the entire Ridley Township community. The award is presented to someone who embodies the "Green Raider Spirit".

As the liaison to the county's Department of Human Services, Dave helps advocate for residents living with special needs. As a father to an adult son with special needs, he understands the challenges these residents and their families face each day.

Dave also serves as the county's liaison to Library services, working with the Library Services Director and staff from the 26 public libraries across the county to promote literacy and help instill a love for reading for our youth.

Dave is a 1979 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School and also attended Delaware County Vocational Technical School and Penn State. He was inducted into the Cardinal O'Hara Hall of Fame in January 2017 in recognition for his efforts, generosity, selfless service and pursuit of excellence in the community.
