Christine Fizzano Cannon is the Vice Chairman of Delaware County Council. She was elected to Council in November 2007 and sworn into office in January 2008. She was elected to serve as the Vice Chairman in January 2010. As a County Council member, Christine founded the County's Energy and Environmental Advisory Board that establishes long and short-term goals and policies for increasing energy efficiency, conserving natural resources and saving tax dollars. In 2009, Christine was instrumental in facilitating the award to the County of nearly $3.7 million in federal energy efficiency grant funds that will be used for an extensive solar project on the County Government Center, an energy audit and improvements at the County prison and a municipal grant program. In addition, she led the creation of the County's new "Green Pages," an Internet resource for energy and environmental related developments, information and programs. Christine worked with the County's technology professionals to improve government accessibility by developing improvements to the County's Web site that offers faster, more reliable access, an increase in printable documents, easier access to court dockets, more information about county government services and user-friendly access to its online services. Christine was a founding member of the Delaware County Open Space Task Force that helped to initiate and implement a program that has preserved 271 acres of open space and environmentally sensitive land in various municipalities within the County and has provided grants for community revitalization in a number of Delaware County communities. In 2010, on behalf of County Council, Christine brought to completion, a three-year project that she spearheaded to preserve the 46.2 acre "Mineral Hill" property in Middletown Township. This historically, geologically and environmentally significant property will become Delaware County's 12th park, adding to the County's 616 acres of open space. The County was able to purchase the tract without any County tax dollars, using instead a combination of state and federal grant monies and funds contributed by Middletown Township that were paid by local developers and open space fundraising efforts. Christine was the 2010 inductee to the Delco Hi-Q Hall of Honor and, also in 2010, accepted the Public Service Award on behalf of Council from the Delaware County Transportation Management Association. A Delaware County attorney since 1994, Christine Fizzano Cannon has concentrated her practice in the areas of commercial and contractual matters, municipal and municipal authority law, land use planning, and estate planning and administration. In addition to her private practice, Christine has served as an Assistant County Solicitor and a Special Prosecutor of Child Support Enforcement in Delaware County. She was appointed, in 2004, by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Disciplinary Board to the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board Hearing Committee to hear cases and review files concerning attorneys located within her district. Christine previously served on the Governor's Judicial Advisory Committee. Christine resides in Middletown Township and served on Middletown Township Council as Council-at-Large, representing the entire Township, for 8 years, before her election to County Council. She served on the Middletown Township Comprehensive Plan Task Force, the Middletown Township Zoning Hearing Board, as Vice Chairman of Middletown Township Council, Chairman of the Land Planning Committee and was a member of Middletown's Finance and Administration Committee. Christine has been actively involved with Delaware County community organizations. She served as a Commissioner on the Delaware County Women's Commission, which advocates for women and women's issues in Delaware County, and as a member of the Board of Directors of Riddle Memorial Hospital. Christine is a lifelong resident of Delaware County. Raised in Ridley Park, she is a graduate of Ridley High School and the University of Arizona. She graduated with honors from Widener University School of Law, where she served as the Articles Editor of the Law Review.
