Senior Judge William R. Toal, Jr.

Senior Judge William R. Toal, Jr. was elected in November 1973. He is a graduate of Bucknell University and Temple University School of Law. Prior to his election, Judge Toal served in the District Attorney's office for ten years, five of them as First Assistant District Attorney. In 1978, Judge Toal attended the National Judicial College at the University of Nevada in Reno. In May 1983, Haverford High School named Judge Toal as the first recipient of the school's Distinguished Alumni Award. In November 1983, the voters overwhelmingly approved his retention for a second term. He became President Judge in April of 1990 and served in that capacity until 1995. Supreme Court rules prevented him from succeeding himself. In November of 1993, the voters approved his retention for a third term. In January, 2003, Judge Toal was appointed to Senior Judge status.
