1. How long does a complaint take to be resolved?
We cannot provide a time frame in which your complaint is settled. Factors that delay resolutions are uncooperative businesses, the amount of complaints registered in the office , incomplete information on a complaint and failure to submit appropriate documentation.
The business is given ten working days to respond. When the reply is received attempts are made to mediate an amicable solution.
2. What happens if a business refuses to cooperate or fails to offer a settlement?
Although we recommend litigation as a last resort, pursuing your problem in court maybe the end result. The purpose of Consumer Affairs is to reduce the burden on the courts through non-binding mediation.
3. Can I make a complaint against a business with your office if I am not a Delaware County resident?
In order to file a complaint with the Delaware County office of Consumer Affairs you must reside in the county or the business you are filing against must be located in Delaware County.
4. May a business file a complaint against a consumer?
Consumer Affairs processes complaints filed by the consumer against a business. Businesses are advised to pursue their claims in court. If circumstances involve criminal activity the appropriate local , state or federal enforcement agency should be notified.
5. Does Consumer Affairs provide information for consumers about the lemon law or credit card fraud?
Our office has a great deal of literature for consumers. Most of the important brochures can be found on our consumer brochures link.
